proposal trick

Postby weazel1990 » Jan 8th, '13, 20:40

Hi all I wanted to propose to my girlfriend in a special way and seeing as everyone calls me dynamo's double I thought why not do a magic trick in the middle of a restaurant, so what I want to do is start by saying the usual "we've known each other for a while" and all that general stuff then check my pockets frantically with a look of despair then have it appear in the middle of my hand can anyone help I have until march 19th

It all depends on how your girlfriend views magic. If she goes along with it for your sake then please don't propose using magic! The occasion is very special and it needs to be special for her in the right way. When it comes to that vital moment, nothing beats being down on one knee sincerely asking her to make you the happiest man on earth by agreeing to marry you.

No doubt others will have advice to offer but, whatever way you choose to propose, many congratulations to both of you!

I'd echo not proposing using magic. If she is mad on magic then by all means make the engagement ring appear in her bread roll or whatever you like, if you aren't sure how mad she is on magic then play it safe.

There's a ring to rose routine that escapes me but some adaptation of RTR would be a nice way. however, I echo Mandrake in saying it depends how she views magic, and also your own personal skill. Do you practice magic regularly or are you what we'd call a 'layman' and more of a spectator of magic?

Don't have much advice for you sir? But think its a nice idea, and also nice to see some of us are still old fashioned romantics.. 8) But please beware, that if things were not to work out, the only magic trick that you will see!! Is your bank balance disappearing.. :( Just some advice  Trust me I am talking through experience.. Anyway good luck. 8) Garry.

I once thought about proposing to my ex using a variant on IN A FLASH by sankey. Although she'd seen the trick my plan was to say I'd devised a new way of using it, and under a bit of misdirection (ask her to pass something from t'other side of table/room, I would switch the coin for the ring and wrap in the flash paper. Then as she turned back and started paying attention again, ignite the paper and voila, ring through cards!

I also thought about RTR as I said in previous post.

I never got to try anything though because the very day I ordered the engagement ring, I found out she'd been being unfaithful for a few months :(

She is a fan of DB huh? You could put her in a trance and have her wake up at the alter in Morocco! Or give her a paper ring and say "This is the ring you are looking for!" Or you could give her a revolver and say that one chamber contains a ring and you will... nevermind. That last one is just ridiculous.

Good luck!

Or, you could just pretend you are doing a DBesque trick. For example you can dress up a bit the very old "I've written here something, do you have any idea what it is?" (hint: it's "no" :) ). Go on for a short (*SHORT*) while and then go for the traditional way, just add a piece of paper with "yes" written on it :)

I am relieved to hear that you are choosing not to use magic in your proposal. Your proposal should be magic enough on its own. Perhaps I'm a romantic but why allow for the potential of the magic distracting from the proposal. You will be bouncing magic tricks off of her for the rest of your lives. Allow her to at least enjoy this moment. LOL
