Scotch and Soda

Postby bananafish » May 2nd, '03, 14:50

I recently bought the scotch and soda trick - and must admit to being extremely impressed. I mean even with my inexperience I can pull it off! (maybe)

I am not convinced about the alternative routine that comes with it though (where the mexican coin is pushed through the table), as I think if I did that it would be obvious how it was done - as lets face it logically there wouldn't be any other explanation. Of course I may be giving too much credit to Joe Public as when you know how it is done it is all really obvious anyway. Its difficult to put yourself in the spectators position once you know what to look for.

Anyway - to get to my question. Does anyone know if there is a UK version? If I tried this trick with friends or family they would immediately suspect dodgy coins - as why else woudn't I be using uk coins? Alternatively - has anyone a good patter that could be used to explain the use american coins?

Thanks

for a uk coin version you could try coin unique it comes in a £1/1P OR £2/2p version... kinda costly though... there is another routine that i always found to be good using cards but as for patter as to why theyre US coins is beyond me... maybe something to do with american immigration officers chasing mexicans thats why the mexican coin always hides (apologies to any mexicans reading this!!!... was only a bit of fun!!!)

The £2/2p version looks like it may be quite good (and more believable in the UK). Does anyone have this that can verify the quality (I read somewhere that the euro version was poor quality compared to the US version).

Also does anyone now where the £2 version is sold. I have just seached

http://www.magicbox.uk.com

for coin unique, and can only find the £1/1p version. (I like the idea of the bigger coin as it gives more scope for transfering the 2p for another coin -lsuch as the 10p

I think Studio 9 have the 2p/10p version as long as it is still in stock. I haven't seen the US ones but the UK ones are very good quality usually. Alternatively there is a uk based company who do coins, I think it is Presto magic, you should be able to find them on a search engine, I'm not sure how good the website is but they do send the occasional newsletter by e-mail. They make all their own gimmiked coin sets, and will even do custom jobs.

my bang ring has been a litle bit worn out, and I was wondering If there is any way to fix it or make a new one. I would buy one but im in costa rica right now and as you could imagine its pretty hard getting supplies here.

 bang ring

get a wood or metal worker to turn you a new one

or cut down a piece of pipe, use a curtain ring.

make a plaster mould of your old one and pour molten metal or lead.

some bottle tops are about the right size.

hope this gives you some ideas
