If the house is in the company's name, is that just the mortgage? Lots of cash in the bank.

Suppose it's possible.
Though a mortgage should be in the long term liabilities, which it isn't.

But then how reliable is the site? I've no idea!

Maybe the house is seen as a short term asset. Dunno, really. Company accountants are like lawyers: they apply meaning post hoc as far as I can tell.

i've no idea, but i do know i (unwillingly) contributed to her wealth......... i took me old dear to watch her in wolverhampton a few years back...... she didnt even entertain my skeptic mother who, contrary to me constantly trying to beg to differ, still believes this woman to have genuine abilities.

If so, you can't really blame her or any other entity for taking advantage of the loopholes in the nonsense tax laws in the UK

[rant mode on] Bombard your local MP with emails demanding urgent revisions and simplification so we all know what's what, can claim relevant allowances, and pay only the right amount of tax. [rant mode off]

The tax system in this country is geared to the individual unknowingly making a mistake, and when you do they POUNCE!

Thanks Jon, having submitted my tax return electronically today, that makes me feel very reassured! :D

And once they find something amiss, they'll check and double check every claim and return for years. When I bought a car from the firm I worked for we made sure the price I paid was fair and reasonable so nobody could say it was a fiddle, we used Glass' Guide to get the value. It also went on my P11D form that same year - no comebacks at all...until 4 years later when the Revenuers wrote to say they'd rechecked using a different car price guide and decided I hadn't paid enough therefore the price should have been higher therefore I owed them a further £70.00 in unpaid tax. It must have cost them more than that to go through the old returns and work things out..... come the Revolution brothers they'll be the first up against the firing squad wall....

This is why I make sure there is money for An Accountant every year. He is the knight in shining armour who will lay the evil dragon of some-evil-sod-being-a-git-because-he's-bored in the tax office.

Indeed, a good accountant is worth his salt and, as business is declining with many firms closing down, they're all looking for new business so don't be afraid to check around and get them to negotiate on fees if possible.

And on that note I've got 5 years accounts payable / recievable experience, have all my AAT knowledge and would be open to moving to a new job
(also, my practical invoicing VAT compliance / legal knowledge is top notch)

Edit: also negotiable on fees
