We used to have competitions, each one on a different theme or style of magic. It was all done on line with the entrants posting their performance on Youtube and members voted for whichever one they thought was best. Prizes were very nominal - a deck of Bikes or similar!

Like many other aspects, after a few of these competitions people lost interest, the Mod who was looking after the comps found less and less time to do so and eventually retired from TM and magic in general.

Its a shame that couldn't be restarted. I bet a revival of the competions could be a great talking point and nice way to give demonstration to performers skills and and tricks. Maybe if you had them less often and a maybe as members to donate prizes. Maybe set a theme one month to allow entrants then the next month voting via a poll and so fourth. That way it may be easier on a moderator.

That's roughly how we did them before. It's possible that we could start them again if there's enough interest.

I am sure that members could find a prize to donate. I will have a look through my "Drawer of Shame" at some of the stuff I bought when I started out in magic because the ads promised instant stardom!

Well could we do a poll to find out opinions on the matter? Ask to see who is intrested, who would donate prizes and so fourth.

I think it could be fun. Definitely worth a poll.

I'd be well up for that!!! I think it's a great idea!! It would be best to have one person start a thread, imaginatively titled "spring competition" or some such. Then people can PM their YouTube links so that they can all be copied and pasted in one go. Once per month might be a bit much - that's what usually causes people to lose interest. Maybe seasonal?? 4 per year and a free for all. Upload whatever trick you like rather than making it specialist??

It sounds promising whatever happens!!

As you might expect, this topic has been active 'behind the scenes' and we have a very positive offer under consideration at the moment. The previous comps were certainly no more frequent than 8 weeks or so and the difficulty was keeping the interest going after the first couple. The idea of members voting for their choice of winner, as we did last time, is good and would ensure impartiality.

Everyone start brushing up your best routines and your 'me looking at camera in cheesy but wonderfully entertaining fashion' techniques.... :D

The monthly ones on the bunny seem to be going quite well

Just need a few guys to volunteer prizes and it could possibly go somewhere
