The top palm technique Andy is learning, which is the one I'd use if I did card tricks, can also be found in Henry Hay's "Amateur Magician's Handbook" and Walter Gibson's "Complete Illustrated Book of Card Magic" (the "End Palm"). I can't immediately see it in the standard Hugard books or Tarbell.

Thanks for the clarification Barry. Is this similar to the Gamblers Squaring Palm in Expert Card Technique ?

Jim

No, I don't think so - though it's described so badly in ECT that it's hard to tell...

I was thinking about this post, because I'd rather be doing anything other than what I am doing now. That aside, I was always worried about classic palming cards. I have 'windows' that one could drive a horse and buggy through. And I live in Amish country so I know about horse and buggies.

My point is that I found the 'gamblers cop' It is a nervy little move but much easier than a classic palm. Get the card to the bottom of the deck (or turn the deck over) and pull the card away. And hand the deck out to be sufffled, (or not) almost every basic book of card magic has the gamblers cop so look it up. The brilliant thing is once I realized I could get away with that, it was a very small hop to get to using the classic palm.

In most of these moves, a classic palm and a classic force, heck even the invisible pass. It is not technique that holds must of us back, it is nerve.

Remember the absolute worst thing. I mean the worst thing is that you will get caught. The good thing about getting caught is A, you will learn a few lessons. B. It is not the end of the world, it is not even close to the end of the world. Take it on the chin, laugh it up and keep on going. You will have plenty of time for tears in the wee hours of the morning, and they too shall pass.
