Illusion Builders

Postby jackdavenport » Apr 6th, '13, 17:38

I am doing some general research into a new concept for a show. It is a seance type show and I plan to culminate my show with a Spirit Cabinet. The Spirit Cabinet itself wouldn't be a standard Spirit Cabinet build with some specific things that happen to it/to me whilst in it not included in your standard Spirit Cabinet, including pyrotechnics going off around it/on it and other ideas I am in the process of creating. With the other ideas I am thinking of I would like to go to a company specialising in buliding illusions. I was wondering if any of you knew of a company that could help me in the UK. I am based in Norfolk however I am prepared to go as far afield as is required!

And Peter Hart are the only uk illusion builders I've ever heard about. But if you've got a high budget for shipping, it might be still worth bill smith magic ventures in Las Vegas.

Provided you have oodles of cash, John Gaughan in the US of A might be able to help.

My first question is "Why?"

My second question is "Are you a magician looking for a spooky finale?"

The second question is the important one in that the effect you describe is suited to a Magic Show but not a program of Mentalism and spirit related demonstration; think of Copperfield's Seance & Haunted House routine from years back (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fy0A7RgGtQA)

Using Pyro opens up some sticky situations however, with insurance being the least of said headaches and either having your own pyro-tech certification or a full-time tech on staff. Then you have those facilities the will not allow any form of flammable unless you post a massive "deposit" . . . there's just been too many club fires in the past 15 years world wide. Too, at least in the U.S. you're talking about controlled substances that will put you on a terrorist watch list, simply because you are purchasing specific chemical compounds.

If you want a spooky Spirit Cabinet routine that operates along the lines of most any other big illusion then be prepared to drop some seriously big dollars. Not just for the cabinet but cool additions like the Reveen "Space Ghost" effect (seen in the Copperfield act where all the ghosts fly out over the audience). Currently I believe Ty Reveen, Lance and David are the only one's with performance rights on that piece but you can double check with Ty via Facebook but DO NOT bother him or the Reveen family for at least a month or so, they are in mourning due to Peter's passing.

IM me and let me know what you can realistically afford and the actual routine you want to deliver and I'll try to point you to sources that are more practical and sound when it comes to a budget.
