Balloon to rabbit box tips needed

Postby Stevie-mandini » May 5th, '13, 15:28

I've just received my balloon to rabbit box and I'm just starting to get the rabbits used to the box but I'm a little unsure about how to accustom the rabbits to a balloon popping? I don't want to spook them. Any advice please

First I have to say I really don't like animals in magic acts. But to help the poor criters out what you have to do is get them used to noises in the first place. So while not in the box get them used to the popping sound. It doesn't take much.

Thanks for the advice mate. From what a gather there seems to be of a divide when it comes to animals in magic shows. May I ask why you don't like it? To be honest its the first time I'm going to attempt it but if I find its to stressful for the rabbits then I'll just use the box to produce other items, there my boys pets first and foremost.

All my professional life I have always used a live rabbit production as the climax to my children's show. Only once in the many years have I had anyone complain about using a live animal. I do go to pains to point out that my rabbit is a well loved member of my family etc. However, I have never used a Balloon to Rabbit for I also think that the sudden bang might be distressing to the rabbit. Just how can we tell? We can't of course, but it seems obvious. You wouldn't like it I'm sure. So by all means use a nice production method, but I would shy away from the above mentioned prop. Mark.

I don't like animals used in any act. Not just magic. But I am not one of those who goes around trying to force my views onto others. I've seen a lot of cruelty when it comes to animals. I'm not saying that everyone is cruel, or that animals used in acts are being abused. I'm just saying all to often the animal becomes a prop. I know a few magicians who are very aware that the animal is a life and must be treated with respect. And good for them and I support their choice to use the animals. Unfortunatly in my long history, I've seen more of the opposite.

So by all means use the bunny. but never forget you are responsible for that life. And just by posting the question you already seem to be in that catagory.

Here is a little tip I'm sure you know. Never end with a vanish of an animal. Always bring the animal back.

Transforming an obviously stuffed toy rabbit into a real live one is an excellent move, not only for kids but for many adults as well.
