Well I decided to record some stuff... But for some reason or another windows movie maker decided to flake out on me, and it closes every time I try to open it, any suggestions as to what program I should use instead?

If your PC is in warranty then try the support line which should be free.

I think that Movie Maker is a free download on the Microsoft web site so you could download and install again and hope that this fixes the problem.

If you have a resource or driver conflict then I suggest that you look in your system restore icon in your system folder if you're using windows XP to see if any new updates have been loaded recently and consider rolling back to a date when you know it was last working.

Not that it helps you and your problem immediately but you never get these problems with Macintosh machines.

If you're into media production (or want to be) when you upgrade take a look at the Apple products (especially the Mac mini) and find out what life without virii, pop-ups and blue screens is like - they're magic!

I tried those things, didn't work... I think I'll just get adobe premiere...

I've always wanted a mac, I want to take digital media technology, so if I do, I get a mac from the school.

There's a program called Multiquence, i've not used it much but i believe you can capture from a camera souce with it.
I dont think it's free but the version i downloaded with let me capture from my webcam.

It seems harder to use than Windows Movie Maker but you were asking for alternatives :P

It can be found here http://www.goldwave.com/
