Was wondering what your thoughts are people on Guitars? Just recently got myself a nice acoustic, and a beginners tutorial DVD, to help me along the way.... Sadly never realized how hard it is to play... Anyway always wanted to play so sticking with it.. Was wondering, anybody on here play? :)
Regards Garry.

Garry,

Its so much fun! Learn the basic chords, the bar chords and a couple of basic scales and suddenly.., you rock! :-).

I'm not sure what impresses the ladies the most.. Well scripted and much practiced strange travellers, or a badly done sweet child o'mine...

What DVD did you get? And what do you want to play?

Hiya. Yes will be sticking with it, and yes your right, I am just getting to grips with the chords at the moment and trying to put together something that sounds a bit like a guitar tune, I have a Dvd with all the basic requirements etc, chords, notes, and just getting to know where all the frets are ? But have also taken advantage of all the free lessons on youtube.. Sadly have to wait until my wife's out of the house before I attempt anything, lol.. Really not sure what type of music I want to stick to yet, but do like the Spanish theme, (flamingo)
Regards Garry :D

Just learn a power chord. The only chord you need

Allegedly Status Quo have forged their career using only three chords. Dunno if that's true but if so I might have a bash at guitar myself one fine day!

I've been playing since I was 15. I play a few instruments but guitar is my main one. Played in a few bands. I mainly play 60s and 70s stuff, although I do play the occasional modern tune as well. Pink Floyd and the Shadows are probably my favourite to play. I used to attend regular jam sessions in bars in Ayrshire.

The picture Tomo posted is aptly named "sniffing glue" - whoever drew it was certainly sniffing something. The picture shows where NOT to place your fingers.

The Status Quo thing is a myth, I've heard the same about Elvis - although there are a few songs that you "could" play using only 3 chords.

A word of caution though regarding your magic - you will develop hard pads of skin on your left hand finger tips (assuming you are right handed) which will dramatically reduce their sensitivity, making things like the pinky count a bit more tricky.

Good luck though, its a fun thing to learn and if you persevere you'll be banging out tunes in no time.
