I've come up with an idea for an effect which I think is quite effective.
It's based on another effect but allows for much more fairness.

Basically 6 - 8 blank faced bicycle cards are given to a spec to shuffle around.
On one side they are totally blank, no markings, niks etc.
On the other side all of the cards have Win except for one card that has Lose (or whatever wording you want to put down)
After spec has shuffled / mixed up the cards, you then cleanly take the cards from the spec & lay them out on the table.
You then go into the touch 2 cards, get rid of 1, the spec & magi taking turns each.

The effect as I know it has either numbers on the card or a small nik, this version doesn't.
Any thoughts...

It sounds like the effect is based on Roy Baker's PATEO force. Perhaps the marking system (assuming there is one) is original, but given that you don't explain it, I'm not sure how anyone could confirm if it's original or not.

Need more details. Based on your description it sounds like a magicians choice, or easily adapted to that. In which case it is not even close to orignal. A video of a performance would be a great help to us to help you.

I assume as MatCult has said that you are touting a new marking system? If so, it wouldn't be enough
to try and market the effect with just that addition. If the marking system is applicable to other
types of effects, cards etc then you may be able to interest some people.

Yes the effect does go down the magicians choice route, it is the marking system that is my initial idea, am still thinking on it, hard to discuss without giving it straight away.

At some point to find out if your idea already exists, you are going to have to share the secret. And really most magicians only steal after the fact. Find people you trust and who have the knowledge base.

I totally agree with bmat. The best thing you can do is to give the idea to a few knowledgable magicians who you trust and ask for their feedback.

Isn't it a shame? The thieves can't even bother to steal your stuff when it is just an idea, they wait until you have done all the legwork, put all the pieces together, put out instructions, marketed the product and sold it. All the work is done for them. I'd almost rather share my idea and they steal it all before I go through such lengths. Just a shame.
