Jumbo cards

Postby Steve B » Jul 21st, '05, 10:37

I'm trying to obtain eight jumbo cards, four kings of hearts and four ace of spades. Any suggestions, or will I just have to buy four packs. Thanks.

If quality isn't too much of an issue, try the Pound shops - they do 'Jumbo Cards' for a quid a deck, other cheapo shops might do them for a penny or two less.

Indeed! I got some a few weeks back from our local 'cheapo cheapie all you can fit in a basket for less than a tenner' shop.

Even better, they are plastic coated and wipeable!

I got 5 packs just incase I never saw them again!

You could also try The Works... I think I've seen them in there for £2

As Mandrake and Seige says - a good source. I found that the cards were quite flimsy though, so for the few I needed I stuck two togther with 3M spraymount glue.

Just as an aside, we had a Summer Fayre a few weks ago and one 'stall' consisted of a table and deck of cheapo jumbo cards doing the 'Play Your Cards Right' thing. It was 20p a go, £1 prize if you managed to turn over all the cards, and it made well over £30 in 2 hours. I spent a couple of pounds trying and won nothing at all - ratbags!

yes i got some wipeable cheap jumbo (99p!) i wanted to make a 'special something' but did not want to use my jumbo bike decks. Talking of large cards, those decks of A4 size cards are not bad (but around £45 a deck  )

I paid, 50p per card for mine, if your wondering why it's "per card" it's because I put my logo and name on all my cards. But Pound Land in my city dose them for a £3 - only joking there a pound.

If there isn't a problem with copyright etc, would it be practical to just print off the required cards, A4 or whatever, on some decent thick card? Card faces are certainly available as clip art and the backs are just a matter of making up a suitable design. If you're really sneaky, you could incorporate your own marking system as well!

Yes you can do that as long you don't use the bike brand(TM). I made up a comedy card effect using a large sheet of paper. But some people seem willing to pay £45.00 + for a4 cards. If you are clever then you can make 5 foot plywood (or similar) cards. Then you can do some very good stage effects

I can just imagine it: 'Thank you for agreeing to help me, madam, just take this ordinary deck of 5ft Plywood cards and give them a good shuffle'! :D

Oooh tempting stuff or what?! I watched the Magic programme on UK Docs last night and it was the one where Paul Zenon did Card Thru Window on the London Eye and a huge QS was revealed on a barge in the water below. It must have been about 15ft x 30ft or so - now that's what I call a Jumbo Card!
