What is the best Card on ceiling Wax?

Postby bananafish » Mar 18th, '08, 09:44

Is there a definitive wax for the Card on ceiling effect?

I have a couple of "magicians" wax's - neither seem up for the job. One is far too hard (don't go there), and the other is more like runny snot. I actually think it is violin resin, so not sure why it was in my magic box.

I have tried warming the hard stuff, but I feel there must be "the" product out there that everyone uses.

thanks

Have you tried Michael Ammar's "Card on Ceiling" wax?! I use that and have never had a problem with it. I guess the name fits...

Add a small amount of vasoline to the wax and work it in. That should make the wax more pliable a little experimenting and there you have it.

You can't go wrong with this stuff; and a small pot goes a long way.

Ah violin resin!
The memories, i dont think your soft one is actually resin bearing in mind you can club someone to death wth it. (Trust me on that  )

it's rosin, not resin but yes it's very hard brittle stuff that's a kind of amber colour.

violin rosin is very good at helping coins stay in Classic when performing coin magic.

Just thought I'd add that

actually the stuff I have is probably neither resin nor rosin. More like Violin Ear wax if there is such a thing.

Hey Guys, I know this is an old thread, but for anyone who is interested, we are now doing a range of custom colored card on ceiling wax.

We have Sharpie Grey for those who hide the wax on their Sharpie, we have Sharpie Black for those who hide it on their Sharpie lid or on their belt. We have Bicycle Blue and Red for those who don't hide the wax in plain sight, but want it to be less visible to an accidental flash on the card.

All colors have been thoroughly texted to make sure they will not stain a ceiling.

They come in 3 sizes too, 15g, 30g and 50g. As a guide, the standard Michael Ammar tub contains around 35g.

You can view the range here: http://www.propdog.co.uk/accessories/putty-waxes

I used to do this trick a lot when I was a kid. It always created a bit of a sensation but I got fed up with picking up all the cards from the floor. I know there are other methods which don't require this but there is something spectacular with cards going all over the bloody place. Oddly enough I never used wax of any kind. I used the Scotch Tape method recommended by Jay Marshall and described in Bruce Elliot's book, "Classic Secrets of Magic"

The advantage of the tape is that it ALWAYS stuck the card to the ceiling very fast indeed.
