Twisting the Old

Postby Anjorno » Jul 29th, '13, 16:41

I came up with this little card trick applying a old method in magic just in a new format.
.uses just playing cards
.any deck
.any card

I recorded myself doing it but messed up the start the 1st time so I started again just pretending to sign the card the 2nd time so as not to waste cards.

tell me what you think.
any tips or suggestions

Once again I applaud you for coming up with these things independantly. Shows creativity and a great future in this business. There is however not much new here, not that there needs to be in order to be a good performer. There are so many variations of this effect and this method, I believe there is a book or two written on the concept however it is always nice to see people like you coming up and working it out for themselves.

It's ok. But there are a few problems with it, in that you cant have them freely select a playing card, nor can the deck be touched by the spectator.
and the shape that you draw on the paper, isnt chosen by the spectator.

Now, all of these issues can be resolved.

I would for example, not use playing cards, I would use a busness card, or I would offer a free choice.

Rather than using the otl principle, I would use a frixion pen, and would scribble all over the face.
I would then psychologically force the triangle. ( Its easy)
and draw the shape named, on a piece of flash paper.
The paper would be placed on the face down signed card, and ignited.
then when they turn the card over, the triangle is now on the face where the scribble once was.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

Just a quick note on Frixion pens. They took them off the shelves here in the USA awhile ago. Some places still have them from left over stock but they are getting harder and harder to find. (banks don't like them).

Many moons ago the Banks equally hated Papermate Replay pens but that was in the days when cheques/checks were a common medium of exchange and liable to be forged or altered. I'd have thought these days that electronic banking, smart cards, credit cards and ATM cards etc and the demise of cheques/checks the choice of writing instrument wouldn't be all that significant?

I think I'm right in saying that certain parts of the US haven't even widely adopted technology like Chip & PIN, so their reliance on 'the old ways' is still quite heavy.

Amazingly there are still places in the UK where plastic still isn't accepted, we booked a camping pitch a couple of years ago and had to send a cheque for the deposit then pay the balance on arrival by cheque. It took me hours to find the cheque book and the last time it had been used was four years previously!
