Hi Guys,

Heres a little question for you lot of bafflers/bafflettes.

What is a 'trick' that you can do in less than 12 seconds?
This could be a flourish, a full trick, or a cunning move. Something impacting, visual etc.

We are not talking groundbreaking magic here, just fun stuff to mess with.
Lets try not to repeat what the last person has said and i'll edit this to keep a list.

Not that I have an issue, but may I know why? How did you get to 12 seconds? why not 10 or 15? Just curious.

How about an Erdnase or other colour change?

Now why is a multiple of 5 more comfortable to people that an multiple of 2, 3 or 4 or 6? i never understood that.
There are 24 hours in a day which is not divisble by 5 but is used daily.

Okay, if you wish. Why not 11 or 14 seconds?

I guess my point is, why such a time alotment. I'd rather know what routines one does that are done well and entertaining.

I'm with bmat on this. What's the point of an arbitrary time limit?

To expand upon his last post, the performance is important. Magicdiscoman could do the haunted key in less than 12 seconds (as could I), but such a thing would have much less impact than if it were done slowly, with a suitable presentation. I am sure he wouldn't ever actually do the HK that fast.

I note that this thread's title is "IMPACT" (well "I M P A C T"), which is arguably completely the opposite of what you get with many quick things in magic.

Pretty much any sleight can be done in a second (or less), but it's the use to which you put them that counts, isn't it? Sometimes, making a coin disappear is enough to wow someone. Sometimes, it's just a little surprise and people just write it off as a trick.

I agree with everything in Part-Timers post. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable doing any of my effects in 12 seconds.

To keep within the spirit of the thread though - if pushed I'd maybe do Crazy Mans Handcuffs.

I suspect hat the reason for multiples of 5 being more comfortable is due to the number of digits most people have per distal appendage.

ID can be routined to be very short and always has impact
