Name of the card change in this routine?

Postby DanielJosephGriffin » Sep 18th, '13, 02:15

Hey guys,

First of all, I'm a very very happy man today. Because I was able to find an old video of a truly amazing, elegant routine which I have desperately been wishing to find again.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AopnkZxFcko

I highly reccomend watching the whole video.

Back to the reason why I'm posting for help, at 2:05 in the video there is an amazing color change of the ace of clubs to the 8 of diamonds. Does anyone know the name of this change? (please note: I'm not asking for a reveal, I will GLADLY buy such a great color change!)

Unfortunately I feel the change may rely on the fact he is performing on a black table..personally I hope I'm wrong.

I don't know the name of the change but I can think of a method which unfortunately does rely on the black table. Not really sure how it can be accomplished otherwise.
To say anything else would be too much exposure.

You are both correct in your assumptions. There are actually two 'tells", which I shant discuss in the open forum. The other two changes would work regardless of working surface, just not the one being discussed.

Its a nice version of the assembly plot though (apart from the deck going out of sight a couple of times).

It reminds me of David Copperfields "Grandpas Aces", in that both are essentially "screen only" effects - taking advantage of certain optical qualities which are unique to tv/screen. Copperfield takes advantage of the fact that tv is two-dimentional, the above uses the optical effects of light and shade / brightness against darkness.

The basic principle goes back a LONG time but seems to have gathered a lot of interest again over the last few years. Originally for use on stage there have been a few ideas for using it in close-up. Some of these are very clever indeed but many are impractical and rely on certain lighting or other conditions.

I agree, I did not want to give too much exposure either but I noticed some of the `tells` which would make the change only work in this video.. Almost a shame.

Thank you for confirming my assumptions, this will still remain one of my favorite routines :)
