Paper Money effects

Postby neil_the_newbie » Sep 19th, '13, 21:15

So... I've finally got round to learning a Bill Switch (Cinch by Shaun Robison). So I am looking at what I can do with the £20 note I have magically produced (other than spend it). :D Any sugestions of effects or points in the right direction would be appreciated. So far I am thinking of Slow Burn.

You could always use it as a climax to an earlier effect that you perhaps 'got wrong'. Maybe you could get a spectators card wrong earlier and then when you produce the note it could have the name of a playing card written on it that mysteriously matches the spectators selected card.

There are lots of things really, transform it into something else, vanish it again...

When I was little I did a show with a burnt and restored bank note effect where the banknote is place inside an envelope and set fire. The bank note then reappeared inside a nest of boxes.

You could roll it into a ball and make it float, or turn it into a bundle of notes.

There are lots of ideas in the classic textbooks - such as for example the one I keep plugging: Hugard's "Modern Magic Manual"which has a chapter on paper money.

As I mentioned on your other related thread much depends on whether or not you are handing the note out after the change. If you are then an effect which uses (or begins) with a regular note will be appropriate. If its not going to be handed out then there are possibilities for using a gimmicked/prepared note. Either way you have plenty of options.

You're sugggestion of Extreme Burn is interesting. I don't think its a combination I've seen before and is probably not a combination I'd personally use - but is something that, with the right presentation, may actually work.

"Switch" by John Lovick has many routines you could use and is highly recommended.
