Outlaw effects - sinister

Postby chambers9153 » Sep 21st, '13, 15:10

Hi Guy & Girls,

Got the above recently. Does anyone know to any video performances available. Love the idea of this but from reading the instructions i feel like i have wasted my money. Would like to see it in action or if anyone has any tips in performing would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Why do you feel like you've wasted your money? The only real way to know if it's a worker is to get out and perform it.

Hi Chris,

I can only echo Lady of Mystery's comments. Do you feel the method is impractical? Are you concerned about the memory work involved? Are you not happy with the look or feel of the prop?

Whatever it is, there may be a workaround, or a new perspective, if you share what specifically the problem is (without method tippage, obv.).

Discovering the method for an effect can sometimes be a disappointing experience - but don't confuse that 'oh, it's just a trap door' feeling with the experience an audience member receives - presented well, they should believe they have witnessed something impossible/incredible/bizarre/intriguing/unsettling/magical/unusual (delete as appropriate).

Hi Mat & Lady of Mystery

Thank you both fro replying

The feeling i get with this is you ask your spectator to choose a victim and then tell them nothing about the victim. I think how you describe the killer is amazing and its something the spectator is going to be blown away by but i just feel as though i will describe the killer and they will be like you asked me to choose a victim, who is the victim? Maybe its just me over thinking and going on experience from awkward spectators. This is why i was hoping to see a performance of this and see how it comes across.

Going by the blurb on the Outlaw Effects site:
"The spec can turn to ANY page, choose an unfortunate victim's name, street, or the area where the murder took place, and you can reveal how they met their demise, if they were male or female, how old they were, why they were killed, and the name of the killer! All this opens up incredible possibilities."
Most of the information seems to be about the victim and the murder rather than the killer.

This kind of effect, as with Luna and other Outlaw stuff, requires a different mindset in the performer, and he/she needs to also instill this different mindset in his/her audience.
This is not magic/mentalism as most people know it.
This needs to come from a whole new angle if it is to work properly.
