Magic & Music

Postby intimaterush » Oct 1st, '13, 15:41

Hey guys.

I'm trying to put a music theme into a few linked magic tricks and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations.
I bought Mental Karaoke, but reprinted the lists out with more contempory songs.

I don't really want 'kids' magic like colour changing cd's. I'm after a mind reading trick that some how involves music.

I'm think of getting a Fill Deck. That way they get a free choice of card, but I get to force the song I want.

Anyway if anyone's got any ideas.......

There's plenty that you can do with a music theme. I've got a routine that runs roughly as, a spectator is chosen from the audience, he's sat with his back to the audience, and asked to wear a pair of head phones 'so that he can't be influenced by anything else that's going on on stage'. Next, five audience memebers are chosen, each picks a CD from a pile and sits in a chair. This basically plays out as a chair test before another member of the audience is asked to pick one of the five on stage who then chooses any track from their CD. The spectator with the head phones on is then asked to name the song that had been playing through the head phones and suprise suprise it matches that randomly chosen track.

I sure you could work something out, take any routine that you know well and see if you can put a music theme to it. Perhaps Annemann's Phantom Artist with singers could work? There must be thousands of things out there that you could do.

Lady of Mystery is right, with a bit of imagination, many routines can be tweaked to be musical.

A couple of 'tailor made' thoughts:

I don't own it, but Docc Hilford's "Hey Mr DJ" could be worth investigating:

Also, Ken Dyne offers a pretty clever free effect using music on an MP3 player when you sign up to his newsletter:

EDIT: Probably the best value way to get hold of the Docc Hilford routine is in his 'Scarlet Dragon' sampler:

'Hey Mr DJ' retails for around $20 in booklet form. 'Scarlet Dragon' is $25 and contains 'Hey Mr DJ' and seven other routines, including the incredible billet routine 'Desire'.

Once again thanks guys.
I've just ordered a few decks of these

Should be able to make a couple of Fill Decks out of them.
