Hello,

My name's Mark, 29, from Ealing in London. I have been interested in magic for quite a few years... I got bought Mark Wilson's Complete Course when I was in my teens.

I always enjoyed learning how a trick was done, but never how to do it. It is only in the past couple of years that I have started to actually learn these tricks myself.

I enjoy card magic mainly, though my pass still needs some work, and I'm still practising the perfect fan. I like small packet tricks, Elmsley's Four Card Trick is a classic, and the Ascanio spread is such a useful move in lots of tricks. I have some vids of me doing these... can I post them in the forums?

Favourite magicians are Jerry Sadowitz (superb sleight-of-hand), Derren Brown (great cards and mentalism), Paul Zenon (pretty funny guy), Ken Krenzel (for his pass) and Alex Elmsley (for all his innovations).

Hope to get to know some other people from London here too.

Looking forward to lots more posts,

Welcome to TM Mark, And nice to see some British Magicians getting a mention. Not that said Genius' never get a mention but it is better than meeting another "BLAINITE" - (my new classification for Blaine enthusiasts  BRING IT ON!!!!!).

Don't worry I'm not a Blainite (good word)

I can appreciate what he did for magic though... in a way he took it from the stage and on to the streets, popularising it for those people who would never have dreamed of watching.

But, like Jerry Sadowitz said:

'I practise magic for 30 years... Blaine stands on a pole for 3 days and gets millions...'

I can't print the rest here, but it is very colourful!

:D

At last someone who doesn't simply slate DB for getting famous on "other people's effects".

DB had the right persona to be famous. People truly believe he's a super creep, hehe...

Yeah... Blaine does get a lot of slating from people. I don't think he ever did anything new in his specials (apart from the box over the Thames... that hasn't been done before), but he did succeed in reaching a wider audience.

For instance, my brother wouldn't have known a pack of Bike's from a normal deck. But now, if he sees me with a pack, he's like:

'They're the same cards Blaine uses.'

If you think about it, Blaine's TV spots have shoved magic under the noses of the regular spectator... those people who thought that liking Paul Daniels all those years ago was just for kids.

That said, I still don't like the guy.
