Hi and welcome to TM! See the post at sutra465677.php#p465677 for a few hints about Blackpool.

Hiya, welcome along to TM. What sort of level is he at at the moment, what can he perform, what books has he read? Blackpool may or may not be worth it depending on where he's at.

He's been interested on and off for a few years but over the last two months he has put a lot of effort in to close up tricks mainly cards.
He hasn't read any books yet I did find a list on here so I will see what I can find, he is at the boredom stage now as he is struggling to find new tricks he can try.

It might be worth grabbing him a copy of Mark Wilson's Complete Course, it's the book that I and many others first got started with. It contains cards, coins, sponges and a ton of other areas of magic, plenty to keep him going for a while.

Blackpool might be helpful but to be honest I think he might find it all a bit much without a basic foundation.

I would definitely recommend that book as a starter, it was my first magic book which I still have

Thanks, I had a look on Ebay and some have 470ish pages some 600, but titles slightly different, should I buy both?

The 470ish pages are the early publications, i believe 2002/2003 there was a re print with additional pages but i don't have that one. I wouldn't buy them both. If he likes cards then the royal road to card magic would be good too. It all depends on how he learns too. Some people learn better from DVD's as supposed to books but royal road is available in both

There're two versions of the Complete Course as far as I know, a hardback and a paper back version. The paper back contains a chapter of 'Reputation Makers' that's not in the hardback. Also make sure you get Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic rather than Mark Wilson's Cyclopedia of Magic, they're similar books but the Cyclopedia is smaller with less material than the Complete Course.

As for other books, you can't go far wrong with any of the Karl Fulves' Self Working series. Royal Road to Card Magic is pretty much the text book for learning cards and Bobo's Modern Coin Magic is the same but for coins. Personally, my suggestion would be to work through Mark Wilson first and then read up further on any areas that interest him particularly.

Nic Einhorn has released quite a few books which are well illustrated with full colour photos and so on. The tricks in them are first class but very easy to understand and, with the usual requirement to practice properly, easy enough to do. These books often pop up in The Works and other bargain bookstores at prices which are very hard to resist!
