Iphone magic apps

Postby Magic1Jim » Jan 23rd, '14, 17:31

Hello all just wandering if anyone has an interest in magic apps for the iphone/Android??

If so which ones do you use?

There doesn't seem to be much about them on here is there a reason for that?

Regards

No particular reason for the relative lack, there have been several threads about such apps, one or two were not very flattering as the apps were, how should I phrase it... - awful!

Personally I'm not impressed by 'magic' apps as specs are always going to think there's some electronic trickery involved which they don't seem to assume with cards, paper and pencil or other basic props. Also,I 'm a well known dinosaur so take no notice of me :D !

I too assumed people would suspect the phone. But after playing with one or two I had to remind myself it is all about how one presents an effect. iForce by Greg Rostami is fantastic and my phone has never been suspect. The phone actually makes sense because many, at least in my circles don't use a pen and pad anymore. And that is all this is, a notepad. Spectator can look, touch whatever, although nobody ever asks to see the app, because they never suspect it. All about presentation.

I play around with card to phone. But not my favourite.

I agree with bmat I was afraid someone would suspect the phone but if you act as if it's unimportant they don't. Apps like premonition are made to look as if you are actually using your iphone. I use iforce too as well as a few others. I suppose it all comes down to preference. There are quite a few expensive apps too though mind you just to deter laymen.

I've used iForce and Boris and played around with C2P. Out of the 3 I would say iforce is the pick although with the right presentation they are all pretty good.

In the hands of the right practitioner, a phone app can be a truly magical thing, just like a deck of cards can be. In the hands of a fumbling amateur both are a disaster. You now know why I don't do phone or card magic :D !

I always thought card magic was the lowest form of entertainment. Then I saw an iPhone trick. Now cards look almost tolerable.

IForce is a useful utility, especially useful as it doubles as a non magic app!
I've had a few of the other apps and whilst they are fun I think they are too toy like for the most part.
I refer to the "trick" apps obviously, teleFoto is another useful utility.

Forensic identification Assistant from alakazam is quite a nice surprise reveal. It isn't a trick in itself just a way of closing a trick.

C2P I think is a lovely little App and a great way to give out your business cards.

Also have a look at this little Gem from Mr I candy himself " Lee Smith" ftopic49091.php

I have had some fantastic response from this, a lovely little app and you can send them the picture of their thought of card,so you then have their email address too.

All the best
