I'm happy with my stack, but am kind of curious as to which stacks are in popular use. I'm not too interested in debating "which is best", it seems like quite a personal thing to begin with in any case, just what stacks are actually in use.

If the one you use isn't listed, let me know!

Stebbins all the way baby!

Used Stebbins for ages then switched to DAO

For cyclic stack work I use 8 Kings. For memorised deck work I use Doug Dyment's Quickstack.

I use 8 kings for a number of effects, quick to learn and cyclical. People have even looked through the cards and saw nothing wrong, I think when a spectator is looking through a deck for a stack they have in mind something a little more obvious

BCS every time

I use Tamariz, which i love. But there have been times where (in the heat of performance) I've got stuck, only for a few seconds, but it was enough to set doubt in...
It took me a while to learn to trust my instinct in these moments (i know the stack, i am just worrying needlessly).

But for that reason, I think it might have been a good idea to learn the BCS and then memorise that. I think that knowing that you have a safety net if you need it will make you more confident in the first place.

BCS is not technically a memorised stack, but it requires a lot of memory work to remember the formula. I've learnt and forgotten it a few times because I haven't used it regularly enough to retain it.

I can relate to that. Demonstrating to a fellow magi on Wednesday and found myself crippled by self-doubt! I knew the position perfectly well, just didn't have the confidence. Ironically because a long time ago I identified where I was weakest in my recall, and put some extra work in getting those weak points straightened out. What happens now is, my brain goes "Ace of Diamonds? Oo, careful now!" and the doubt creeps in.

Mr Grue, as I was the fellow magi in question, I have to say that your self doubt didn't show in your performance, and if you hadn't told me after then I wouldn't have known!

What it did show me is the value of the Tamariz stack, in that you know more than just the next card, but the exact location of every card!! It was a fine piece of magic

For my purposes the breakthrough system is fine, but certainly there are some amazing possibilities with the stack Tamariz has given us!
