Michael Close Lecture at Ipswich 7 Oct 2005

Postby bananafish » Jul 30th, '05, 09:46

woohoo!

I have just had it confirmed, that Michael Close has agreed to a lecture at the Ipswich Magical Society, Friday October 7th. :)

Michael is only in England for a few weeks, and as well as appearing at this years IBM convention at Southport he is only doing a few additional lectures, so I feel quite honoured that he agreed to lecture for us.

As you probably already know I am a big fan of Michael Close, and as he is very seldom in England it seemed a great opportunity to see one of the big names in magic up close and personal.

For those that attended the recent Michael Ammar lecture this year, you will be pleased to know that this time I have booked the larger conference room, and so everyone should have a much better view of the event.

It will again be a ticket only affair though, as I suspect it will quickly be sold out. Please pm me for more details.

I've said it on another thread, but I was at the Ammar lecture and it knocked me for six. If you're anywhere near Ipswich at all, i.e. within an hour or two's drive, then get a ticket for this lecture.

I can't make it this time, as I'm currently rehearsing for an amateur dramatic production which is being staged at teh same time as the lecture.

I'm gutted.

I'll put a ticket aside for now - just let me know nearer the time. Maybe you could get a possey from cambridge together and all come down en masse? If you are looking for a lift I could have a word with the pentacle club and see if they have many members coming down...

That would be great - I'm asking a bit much from my parents in the way of shlepping (Halstead, Ipswich, hopefully Blackpool...).

I've never heard it used and, oddly enough, it doesn't appear in the consise Oxford English Dictionary I have here!

Cogito, ergo sum.
Cogito sumere potum alterum.

The last guy I heard use it was Roy Hudd and that's got to be over 20 years ago - very showbizzy type word at the time.

Well, it's not English so I'm not surprised that it's not in the OED. See here for a definition...

This was so incredible.

I know I know, I have been saying that a lot about shows/lectures recently, but this was really something special. A real magic lecture, with an emphasis on LECTURE. Yes he did a few tricks, and even ran through how they worked, but more importantly he was talking about how we can make ourselves better magicians. How we can solve problems.

Actually, I am not going to go into detail about the lecture here as I will be writing a proper review in time, but you have to know that this was a very special lecture and if you get a chance to see him (I believe he is still to lecture at Watford and maybe the Magic Circle?) then get a ticket.

If you are serious about your magic and not just looking to learn a few tricks then you WILL get a lot out of it. (trust me. I'm, a mentalist)
