Before my hiatus I remember it to be a bit livelier. Did I miss something?

It has actually picked up a little recently.

I think we had a lot of very active members who all seemed to go off and do their own thing at the same time a couple of years ago.

New Year time can be very quiet. In stead of browsing, why not start a few threads and see what happens?

I have one or two reviews to write, but I need a bit more time (it's the unfortunate time of the year where most of my work consists in submitting applications for new jobs). Browsing this forum has always given me ideas, so that's why I do it
