I already have a version of ID. For some reason I still can't master the thing after a few weeks of diligent practice. The cards simply spread apart -- bad news! I just bought Mental Photography (by Hull) based on a very good in-store demo. I get it home and see it's the same principle.

Does anyone feel that maybe these tricks are just too damn risky, not to mention you have to re-rough spray them every few months ((by the way -- how often exactly -- how can you tell if they need it?)

I WANT to master both, but there's a frustration level about them that I don't see in most of you folks. Hey -- maybe I just suck!

Any advice?

I don't think I have ever heard of this principle being considered risky, though there are certain techniques that make its use easier. Try a search for ID on the forum and you will find plenty of discussion on it.

Nickj -- thanks. By "risky" I mean "subject to me screwing up the whole trick." When I do it (and I have an instructional CD that I've watched 100 times) I can't seem to spread the deck WITHOUT also showing some accidental exposure of the other cards, if you know what I mean. I see how beautiful the trick could be, though. I'm also a bit stymied as to how to keep the kings straight in the set-up. Grr.

You may have got a bad deck - if you really can't do it one thing might be to get a can of ******** spray and use that to 'top up' the cards a bit...

I also use the ID in my close up roputine and never have a problem so the thought of a bad deck would appear consistent.

With regard to the ********** spray, I've literally used a deck for hundreds of performances over a couple of years and still haven;t needed to re-treat the cards.

I've had the same problem with my Brainwave deck (I dont have an ID but i believe they work on the same principle). When I first got it it worked great and I only performed it a few times then it went funny. I have an ID on the way thought so I shall soon see if I just have a bad deck also or whatever.

There are two versions, one is the spray and the other is the paint.

I've used a Nudist deck that I got from Keith Bennett about 10yrs ago on a regular basis. It is the spray kind (if I'm not giving too much away) and its still as good as the day I got it, despite its regular use.

I would suggest that something like the Nudist or ID is best bought as a quality item and not a cheapo, then you might find it works better

I have a brainwave deck that did the same thing. It never worked as well as my ID. I redid it myself and now it works beautifully. I don't want to give anything away (although, I think this thread has unusually exposed more than others) so I don't know how to go about telling you what I used on it.

I would also have thought bad deck except he has 2 decks both using ro*** and sm**** so if neither work possibly it is a handling problem. There should not be any exposure of cards you don't want exposed. You should spread very firmly and then a light touch at the appropiate moment but I guess you already know that. Don't know what else to suggest.
