Butterfly Cut

Postby Jing » Aug 8th, '05, 18:45

Can anyone give me a few pointers on the Butterfly Cut, i can do the initial bit of splitting the two packets and almost competing a charlier in each hand, its when i get to all the flicking, and especially the putting the cards together - i tend to be dropping them or losing grip. Does anyone else find that pinching them between the fingers feels, unstable?
More practice needed probably, but if you know any useful things...then that's be great.
Thanks,
Ed.

those rubber page turners willhelp you grip. There is a guy who specialises in finger training, it streengthens them and makes them ore manipulative. If i have mroe time, I'll search and find his website. Finger basketball is one that i remember. Good luck anyhow.

There's a guy called Greg Irwin who does some amazing stuff with his hands. Check out his website here:

http://www.handhealth.com/

He has exercises for finger and hand fitness on there.

Hope this helps,

The butterfly cut is practice, practice amd more practice.

I found the most difficult part when I was learning it was the simultaneous Charlier cut in both hands. Once I'd got this part off without dropping the top packet onto the bottom packet and not retaining a break, the rest was relatively easy.

You just need to grip and turn with index, middle and fourth fingers

I always hate it when people say that the best way to learn is Practice. It's not a very practical response.

Yes it is. If you know what you are doing it is the only thing left to do. I always hate it when people give up too soon and ask for quick and easy ways of doing things; sometimes they just don't exist.

Please don't take this other than they way it was meant, Jing asked the question as one would expect, ie, in terms of anything that he might be doing wrong to continue to practice. Practice is the main ongoing part of learning any new skill.

Thanks for the support NickJ and I share your reasoning.

However, as Blade Master has not taken into consideration that I also added some comment about my own experience of this partuicular cut that may help, the comment made by Blade Master is surely invalid anyway?

never mind
