Hi everyone, I'm new to these forums but certainly not to magic!
my name's Ben and I'm 21. I've been doing magic since I was about 10, but not in a formal way at all. I just played a lot of cards, and made up a few tricks, false shuffles etc. Then when I was about 15 I started reading books on the subject- just the obvious ones that everyone blindly recommends to any beginners. Since then I've gone through all the stages that most of you have gone through or will go through: simple tricks; then lots of tricks, then more complicated tricks, then mentalism, then back to cards, and finally back to some really simple but effective card tricks that require no more sleights than a control, a false shuffle, a palm and a DL. easy.

As for the rest:

Location: Liverpool

How you found talkmagic: link from magiccafe I think

Time since you started magic: abour 10/11 years

Types of magic you do: card magic and a bit of other close up stuff like coin under watch

Favourite type of magic: cards- I like Ortiz's gambling themed stuff and David Regal's material. I've gone through so much material in my time, and I've got a big pile of books and DVDs that I now find boring and useless! :S

Favourite magician: any of: Darwin Ortiz, David Regal, flicking fingers, Derren Brown, Guy Hollingworth

Favourite effect/trick: ambitous card or triumph for their simplicity

Favourite Dealer: whichever has what I want in stock.

Comments about yourself / magic (anything):
Bill Malone's DVDs annoy the hell out of me (but they're not bad)
The story of the beginner who knew 100 tricks and the seasoned pro who only knew 5 is a pointless thing to say to a beginner and only tells one side of the story.
There's far too many c**p DVDs being released teaching the exact same stuff.
And there's only so much room in the market for every conceivable combination of: cyclic deck/rough-smooth/long-short/tapered etc....

Ben

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
