Trick Type : Coins and Cards
Available from : Marvins Magic
Price : £7.99
Difficulty : 2.5/5
Examinable : Not really
Angles : Spectator sees the trick from on top.
Reset : Instant
What you Get : 4 cards and 4 coins

Effect

This is the well known, classic coin trick, and is also marketed under various other titles, more commonly known as THE MATRIX.

Four coins are placed onto the mat.
Each coin is covered with a card.
Suddenly, one by one, the cards are lifted, and the coins have vanished, and all gather under one card.

Review

This classic effect, can also be performed using sleight of hand and ordinary cards and coins, but this gimmicked version makes things alot easier, and more dazzling to see. The cards supplied are not Bicyle, and are the usual Marvins Magic cards. Instructions supplied are excellent, but i think the trick will suit new magicians more.

7/10

The problem with this trick is it is almost impossible to perform the trick without making clangs from the coins. It's not really a trick appropriate to most situations. It really needs a performers mat.

in addition to the standard matrix, this trick actually climaxes with a coin held by the spectator tenetrating through their hand and through the (gimmicked) cards into any wine glass.

I'm a demonstrator for marvin's magic, and have to say that this is one of my favourite tricks, because it can be performed with these (apparently) everyday objects, rather than with blatant props.

John its all about how you position the coins, i have mastered the art of not making that 'clang' you mentioned, simply slide the card onto the already positioned coin on the mat.

Also may i recommend that you ditch the cards that come with the set, get some sissors, a set of bikes, super glue (if you are younger seek adult supervision :) )and doctor the special card ;) )

there is nothing worse then trying to explain to a spectator, why you must use a different set of cards, from your last trick.

I agree that usin a different set of cards suck, but Marvin's Magic tricks are "professional magic made easy", not "professional magic" - so they don't come as bikes. Also, this trick is great on kids but I know what you mean about the basic sleight of hand... the matrix itself is not fantastic as the sleight is quite obvious, but the coin-through-hand aspect of the trick is still a winner.

I do the coin trick with normal cards and coins, and my coins never clang. It's all about moving the coin to a different position as you put it down.

If you want gimmicked cards, check out John Kennedy's Impossible Matrix. It is the original matrix except it uses 2 cards their examinable at the end and it also explains another routine about having the coins travel back to your hand. An awsome trick!
10/10 :) hope this helps.
