Big title so that people might read my introductory post!

Hey Guys
I'm new to these forums, so I'd like to introduce myself. I'm Will, and I live in Buckinghamshire. I've been into magic for as long as I can remember, getting my first taste from Paul Daniels and Marvin's Magic sets back when i was just a nipper. I like close up/ street magic, and I like to think that I am a fairly good magician.
One thing that bugs me though, is that while I can generally amaze and astound most people with my magic (it helps if they're drunk  ), my dad is the one person that continues to call my bluff! I can perform in front of 20 people, and fool them all, but he will know (crudely) how its done (but at least has the decency not to show me up in front of everyone)

Does everyone have that 1 person that continues to be unfazed by their magic? I hope so, because then it means that I'm not a terrible magician :D

Anyway, I hope that TM can help me improve my skills, and possibly I might be able to contribute as well to the community
cheers
W

Welcome to TM Will- my Dad and Mo.m do know there is a trick to everything that I do, they guess or just know or sometimes guess, my brother and sister also can see some of my tricks but not half the amount my parents do.

Hi Snap,

welcome to the forums :D

Yep, my mum. She like my tricks, but pretty much knows them. I think its because they're around when your growing up watching you practise and tidying up the mess and reading the instructions at the same time  , and the principle to a lot of tricks are simalar to ones from Paul Daniels etc if you know what I mean. And if you show magic to a stranger, its mysterious, and are wary and excited by you. Your folks know you as normal plain old son for however many years (still special of course :D :D :D ) but not so mysterious to them. You want to fool them? go into mentalism, my mum freaks at my Banachek stuff! ;)

Welcome again, me mums from Amersham, ('owever you spell it) :D :D

Don't worry, there's usually one person who isn't impressed! According to a recent TV programme, folks who have a very logical mind (and perhaps little emotion) will not be entertained by magic as they simply can't suspend their disbelief and just go with the flow like everyone else when a trick or routine is being done. I'm not suggesting that your Dad falls into this category but it sounds like he just enjoys figuring out how something's done - perhaps you should offer him the job of being your Magic Development Executive as he's likely to invent some great routines one of these days!

Welcome to this forum :)

Well, my mum can always figure out how it's done but finally I've reached a point where she isn't sure when I did the things :) I found it easier to fool her when using more missdirection..need to get there eyes of from what you doing. Works for me atleast :)

cheer guys!

Its good to know I'm not the only one! I've got a few new tricks up my sleeve (!) for next time I visit him, and I'm really aiming for the shock and awe angle this time.

yeah I've heard a little about Banachek stuff, and that kinda thing really interests me anyway, since I'm doing psych at uni! I'm thinking of getting that Psychological Subtleties book to help with my act.

Your mums from Amersham? So, who takes the * more, you for her southern accent, or her for your Dudley accent?
