I am looking to add Mark Wilsons COmplete COurse in Magic and Twisted Sisters, and i want the FInal price to be no more then $100 or $110. Seeing as I am getting COmplete COurse in Magic, it will include a coouple of things about sponge balls and cup and balls so should i cut the bookllets to theose things. WHat else should i cut out? Thank you for any sugggestions and replies.

I know what you are thinking, Wingman, another dumb question. It the least one i promise.

This is just IMHO (and others may not agree  ) but why do you feel the need to start with IT? and wax. I know what you want them for, but don't see why you want to start learning them yet.The Mark Wilson has a great sponge ball section in it. Dime and Penny, is that the Royal one :?:
I also wonder if you need Royal Road as well as Born To Perform, from what i have seen of the DVD it seems to cover a nice selection of material.

Colorful Cups and Balls 2.99
Equal Unequal Ropes (White) 2.99
Cups and Balls (Booklet Only) 3.99
Sponge Ball Magic (Booklet Only) 4.99

thease things you will not need if you get mark wilson's book.

in addition you will be able to make a dove box, tip trunk, double box assistant production and a few stage illusions.
there is enough card maic and coin magic not to need seperate books.
most items like the square cirlcle production prop and other props can be made at home adapted to your needs and then fabricated from wood and other materials, plenty of details are given.

Personally i'd take off the:

101 Tricks with a Svengali Deck (Booklet Only) 3.99
101 Tricks with a Stripper Deck (Booklet Only) 3.99

I've not read them and I'm sure there's plenty of material in them that you would use, but when you see the way they work I'm sure you can figure out some effects.

Also with the ones i bought they came with a couple of cards inside which had a couple of basic tricks explained.

Unless you really love learning from old books with few illustrations I'd drop RRTCM and BoBo, you will have plenty to go at from Mark Wilsons complete course and Born to perform. There is only so much you can do at once and Mark Wilson and Born To Perform are easier to learn from.

try and make sure the ID is the same colour as your other decks. Not absolutely neccessary but can be helpful.

I'd scrap the lot with the exeption of the plain deck of bikes and the ID!

Radical I know, but if you're getting the Marc Wilson complete course in magic, I recommend dedicating your time to the course and then see where that brings you out! You'll have money left to spend on items that the course recommends instead of being spent up.

If you're playing around with other decks, book, DVD's etc. whilst doing the course then you won't get the best out of it. Don't be impatient as you have years ahead of you to pick up on the other things.

Very great advice there, when you get Mark Wilson you will be shocked at the sheer amount of magic contained. Have you thought of just ordering the Book and a deck first, seeing what is in the book and then getting more props if you feel the need too.

Just a small advice from a newbie, try to concentrate on one sort of magic in the beginning, from that list I can see that you want to perform both with coins and cards and a few other things to. If you want to be good at coins you have to put all effort into coins...and I guess it's the same with cards. So stick to one kind of magic, atleast in the begining.

I honestly think you're foolish to be spending this amount of money and this amount of magic. Especially as a first buy.

Just get a DVD, a book and a couple decks of normal bikes and see how you go.

You don't have to have everything NOW.

I have to agree with everyone here Wingman...

Mark Wilson's course is a great start... plus a couple of decks of Bikes. I'd get a blue and a red-backed deck, as from memory I think the Mark Wilson book has a couple of tricks in with switching backs (I might be wrong here)

I don't want to deter you from learning though, and I'm impressed, as I'm sure others are, that you want to learn so much. I made that mistake in the beginning... I bought lots of stuff, and it was the wrong way to do it. Some of that stuff I haven't looked at since I got it years ago.

So start with the basics... maybe add that 'Counts, cuts, moves' book by Mentzer to your list (see your PM), and you'll get a good grounding. It'll give you time to save up some more cash, and move onto bigger and better things.

That said, keep up your enthusiasm mate, and you'll do well!

I agree with everyone.

I think card magic is always the best to start off with. As you progress, you'll learn if it's your cup of tea. If not, then move on to something else. As for me, I think I'll stick to just card magic (impromtu) because it's fairly cheap and you can do so, so, so, so many tricks with just one deck of ordinary cards.

Playing with cards doesn't mean you have to only do magic. As for me, I'm moving on to flourishes for which I just bought Xtreme Beginnerz by De'vo. If you're into magic, definetely go Oz's Born to Perform which I know is on your list already.

Just grab a couple of Bikes (or in my case, I prefer Tally Ho's) and get yourself Born to Perform and you'll be able to impress anybody...

Hope this helps!

Greetings

Yep I agree with you all too.

I myself have bought far too many tricks, books and DVDs and most of them are gathering dust as I have found that practice is what is needed first.

I also second Stevebo Just 3 or 4 decks and born to perform is all you need to start with as this DVD will teach you lost of great sleights and 4 fabulous routines.

Hope this helps
D.
