Plastic Coin Wallets

Postby bananafish » May 22nd, '03, 09:40

Does anyone know where I can get some extra plastic coin wallets - like the ones that come with the coin unique?

Or - is there a better way for keeping coins?

Bananafish!

It depends whether you want storage for safe-keeping coins whilst not in use or whether you want a stash whilst performing...

When not in use, my coins live in a ring binder, along with my packet tricks...

Explanation:
Go along to your local photography shop, get some sheets of A4 35mm transparency holders and some 5x4inch A4 tranny holders.

They are A4 plastic sheets with pockets - ideal!

I've got about 80 coins, some gimmicks, some real, some just rare. This lets me not only keep them safe, but I can flick through and SEE them.

The 5x4inch tranny A4 sheets have 4 pockets per-page, ideal for holding packet tricks (I've got umpteen, must be about 30 or 40 now).

This format has served me well!

As for performance, a leather belt-attached coin purse is ideal.

I like the idea of the ring binder/transparency holder for general storage and I will be doing that - and I like the idea of a purse on a leather belt for performances (beats the heck out of fiddling around in my pockets all the time for the right coins).

However I am off to the States for a week next week, and I want to take some of my coins with me, but I don't want them rattling about in free fall in a wallet or purse. In particular I like the coin sized plastic wallet that the coin uniques come in - and wondered if they were sold seperately. I guess I could use the transparency holder to transport them - but I don't think they are sealable. (I may be wrong).

Thanks for the ideas though. Food for thought.

The States!!! Lucky you!!!

Anyway, I went to the Netherlands recently, and had the same quandry.

I took my gaffed Euro's collection, plus some half dollars. About 20 coins in all.

The solution I found was quite a simple one, although expensive, it's pretty similar the little leather-style wrapover wallet I think you're referring to with Coin Unique...

Try here:
http://www.cards4magic.co.uk/acatalog/C ... ories.html
and go for the D Manns coin wallet for £15. It holds 8 coins nicely.

Or contact clive@cards4magic.co.uk. tell him what you're after and he'll sort you out.

Have a nice trip!

Failing that, a trip to your local Staples or similar should give you access to those small plastic bags with resealable tops - the folks in the USA call them Ziplock. I use one size to keep my packet tricks in and I've seen quite small ones which would take £2 size coins a treat. If nothing else it would stop your coins rattling against each other - even better if you wrap them in tissue paper/kitchen roll or somthing as well!

Have a good trip!

stupid as it may seem, shops that sell things for coin and stamp collectors will sell what you are looking for.

Thanks for all the advice.

I thought I would also check out www.BatmanAndRobin.Com to see if they have any "utility belts" I could buy.

Interesting...

Just ordered a utility belt from the BM&R store, and it would seem that you get a free Raven-style grappling hook if you order before the end of December 1905... And if you pay by plastic, you get a free 'Learn how to combat that evil Street Magician' book - Kapoww!

Where's my credit card...
