Card Manipulation DVD's...which one!!!!!!

Postby BeerForDolphins » May 22nd, '03, 15:05

Hi all,

This is my first post so forgive my newbie-ness. I am currently struggling through the Royal Road but would benefit from visually seeing how things are done!

There are a multitude of card DVD's out there...Jeff McBride being one. If I am going to buy something I may as well go the whole hog and get a series. What would be the best one to go for that would take me from a novice level to something more advanced...without totally demoralising me and making me want to chop my fingers off.

Any help appreciated..

OK...I'll make it easier for you

Which one and why: Jeff McBride, Daryl's Encyclopedia or Ammers series.

Help me out here....these DVD's are expensive enough never mind potentially picking the wrong one!!!!!

There are 3 totally different styles from Ammar, Daryl and McBride.

Ammar: to the point, accomplished. Very comprehensive.

McBride: theatrical, flourishes, not exactly sleights, just manipulation

Daryl: precise, fun and very well taught.

Depends what you mean by 'Manipulation'...
Card sleights and card manipulation are quite different...

I suppose poficiency in general card manipulation results in the sleights being the more impressive....by the sounds of it though Daryl's series (reading through reviews here and elsewhere) has got a reputation for being very well taught.

Sleights are better to learn first, I imagine.

Manipulations such as productions, cuts, shuffles, fans and flourishes are much easier if you're dextrous at sleights.

Card manipulation is almost a performance art in itself, but can be used to embelish magic and sleights.

Try the Daryl DVDs... then McBride. The McBride manipulation series will help you further with your sleight of hand magic.

Dear DolphinsGetDrunkToo,

I've been thinking for about 20 minutes about my reply to this (I think I'm there now)...

Card Manipulations are not card tricks. I suspect you are interested in getting into wowing those around you with cards. If you are after a series, go for Daryl's Encyclopedia Of Card Tricks. You will find that actually, there aren't too many tricks on it - it is mostly sleights. However, as a series on DVD/video, it can't be beat.

That said - have you considered books?
