Postby wingman04 » Aug 25th, '05, 01:22

My birthday is coming up soon and I do not know what to request. I want something with card magic or any kind of impromptu magic, books or dvds, doesnt matter as long as it has many many effects. I am a magic newbie and know the fundamentals such as DL, forces, grips etc but would like to learn more effects? Any suggestions?

Ask for Card College Volumes 1 and 2 - they'll keep you busy for quite a while.

I had exactly the same thought!

Take the money, put it into a savings account and keep it safe for when you've worked through what you had delivered last week. DON'T just skip over the moves and think that you've got them down to a tee, just becasue you know what they look like. Knowing how a DL is done and actually performing it invisibly are not the same thing.

The more magic that you buy at your stage of learning, will actually slow down your progress as a magician. I know through experience of having made exactly the same mistake

If I could go back to the beginning now and just take things more slowly, and FOCUS my learning efforts in a more constructive way, I'm sure that I would have got to my current skill level much earlier (it takes hours of practice to be this bad  ).

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

No I cant do them perfectly and I know everyone thinks that I am just not going to perfect the fundementals but it is a month until my birthday so I am sure I will by then especially since I practice all day long as there is summer vacation now....

If you can work your way through what you've just bought, and perform everything decently, let alone perfectly within that one month window then I'll be very impressed indeed 8)

Anyway, good luck trying and have fun

On the other hand, if adoring relatives really want to buy appropriate prezzies then, even if someone already has lots to work through, it would be a shame to miss the opportunity of getting stuff for future use and study!

Good point, leave the CUPS expenses to other people. If anyone wants to buy me the dancing hanky then feel free

Many books, have you tried going into a local magic shop in New york to get advice too? i can't remember the name of shop i went into when i have been there (someone on here will know). That new DVD by Russ Steven's video productions is good, it is called 13 and has 13 of the best easy card tricks. http://www.rsvpmagic.co.uk
