Guten Tag Everybody!

Postby RolandHenning » Aug 27th, '05, 18:39

My name is Roland Henning. I am a 27 year old magician from Germany. I am a professional magician and I pay my rent doing it. I found this forum typing my name into the Google search engine. My name was mentioned on this forum and I took a look around.

To make a long story short, I registered.

My interest in magic covers pretty much everything. I used to do bizarr magic (the freak stuff) and slowly turned to mentalism. After doing that professionally for a few years I stated to explore the world of Close Up Magic, which didn't get enough bookings, so I extended towards comedy stage magic. I don't do any mentalism anymore. A few videos of mine are uploaded at the MVD. Take a look if you have the time.

I am looking forward to having interesting magic talks.

cu Roland Henning

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. I am doing street magic as well. It is actually my favorite type of magic. Probably the most honest type of magic, getting the most honest reactions (money). With street magic I am talking about the classic way. i think it is called busking. You know getting a crowd, keeping the crowd and making them pay money.

I love "sleight of hand"-magic and dislike "self working"-magic.

Just to be annoying and to start a discussion, I don't see what's wrong with self-workers. In fact, I prefer them to sleighty tricks - you don't have to worry about performing the invisible turnover backflip sidesteal spread pass control because there isn't one !

A spectator doesn't know the difference between a self-worker and a sleighty trick - so there's no difference to them. However, the problem arises when the effect of the self-worker is not as good as the effects with sleights. And nobody, ever do the 21-card-trick...aaaaarrrrrgggghhh.

Check out ETMCM for some great self-workers!

Kati

Maybe I should be more precise. I don't like to do self working magic. There are some good self working tricks out there. But when I do them I don't feel like I am doing the magic (which is the case when using sleight of hand) but the prop does it. Kind of feels wrong to me, witout me being able to tell you exactly what is wrong about it. So I don't do it and I am happy.
