'Slow Motion' Three Card Trick

Postby trickyricky » Aug 28th, '05, 23:35

Hi, thought i'd write a quick review of a simple card trick i got sometime ago now. I have not been able to find a review already written, so i thought i'd give it a shot as my first review! Hope you enjoy it!

The Effect

This is a fairly simple trick which is a variation of the 3 Card Monte.

The main point of this effect is in the title, it must be done SLOWLY! You show the 3 cards (slowly) front and back and arrange them into a fan. For the rest of the trick you get the spectators to try and correctly guess the location of each card. While they are right the first time, the second time they are not so lucky.

You then show the cards to be in a certain order and place one face down on the table. You show the remaining two and place one of those into your pocket. The final kicker comes when the have switched places without you even touching them, and in such slow motion at that!

Cost

I think it cost me about £3 for all cards required and easy to follow instructions.

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

1 - Easy peasy, my cousin could do it and she is 4 months old.

Review

I really like this trick because it is so simple but the reactions can be quite big! Even the spectators that burn your hands with their eyes cannot figure out how you make the switches.

I tend to perform this trick for a few friends at the beginning of the night when they havent had too much to drink, so i am not using my easier effects when i could be doing more difficult ones when i might slip up but they wouldnt notice due to the effect of alcohol!

Unfortunately, the cards are not bicycle cards and are Bridge sized cards, but in my opinion, that doesnt really matter. You might even be able to get the cards in bicycle brand but i haven't seen them.

Overall

Overall, i would give this effect an 8 out of 10 because it gets good reactions and is very easy to do. However, the fact that it is not on bicycle cards may put some people off. I also feel like the gimmick may be a bit obvious and delicate sometimes, even though nobody had ever spotted the gimmick when i have performed this trick.

I guess you can't show the cards after the effect?

Oh, yeah sorry, when you have finished you are clean and can show all 3 cards again, front and back.
