Music use in Clips

Postby louisglazebrook » Sep 10th, '05, 14:16

G'day all...

Just thought I'd ask about music use in video clips that we post on these types of forums. Are we allowed to be including popular music to our movie performances or is this breaching copyrights and so forth?

So yeh if anyone can shed some light on this subject, please do...

Louis

The short answer is no!

All music is copyright to someone - composer, writer, artist or recording company and so to use it you need to have a reproduction licence.

There are certain companies which produce music for use as background - jonathan fiddy music for instance in the UK - and there are also web sites which will let you have suitable music for use which is effectively 'royalty free' in most circumstances, so take a look around and you'll be musically supported and legal too!

I'll see if I can find some good sites and post the links a bit later - off to do a wedding in the rain! Still, it's raining at the Oval too (although that might not be the best news for you :-) ).

Hope this helps,

Vic

Yeah I hope so too. I wonder if my magic club will be able to answer these questions for me...

Rune, there's a guy in my club (Sean Fields) His stuff is sold on ellusionist. Maybe he would know, I should be seeing him on the 15 at a lecture I'm going to, so if I find anything out, I'll let you know.

I think, that, if you ask ONE person, they say something, another person says something totally else. I wonder, if we contact Ellusionist, and ask them, if they would answer. I mean, if you look at the Ninja series, don't remember which one, they explain the secrets of the "Erdnase change". But they call it something totally else. Don't remember what they called it, but that was something totally else.

If I had developed a trick, I would be rather angry if they changed the name of my trick, but again, if they used the same name, and gave me credit, i would be satisfied. I really wonder how this works...

But again, how the H*** can someone take copyright for a card-move? THAT is quite amazing.... "Hey, I found a way to flip a card, let's patent it and copyright it..". Pretty strange that you will get copyright on such a thing....
