Off Topic - Reading ebooks on other than Laptop or Pocket PC

Postby Johnny Bravo » Sep 11th, '05, 23:54

First apologies I know this is off topic but it's a support question of type.

Like many others I have loads of ebooks but I'm not that keen on reading from a computer screen, likewise I'm not to keen reading from my pocket PC & my symbian phone has to small a display to read comfortably.

I read a year or two ago of a electronic paper, which is A4 size & almost as thin & light as paper. Using technical wizadry particles are arranged in the order of text (don't know if it can deal with pictures) & retained until the next page is loaded. This sounded great to me from when I first read about it but I haven't heard anything about it since.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about, if it's been invented.

Problem is I don't know what it would be called so can't really do much of a net search?

I very much doubt its been created yet. I have a faint recollection of it being talked about, in regards to news stories in papers being changed regularly. A great idea, but still sounds a little beyond our current scientific abilities!

Dependant on how much money you want to spend ... HP have a great range of Tablet PC's ... basicly running a Windows based OS they are like 1/2 a laptop ... just the screen with a stylus style pen to use ... they are great for this sort of things as you can sit on the couch and relax while you read ... much more convienient than a laptop.

If you were looking to get yourself one of these i can point you in the direction of a few good supliers that will beat the direct HP price.

PM me if you want any more info.

Ta,

Rob

See what you mean, followed the link & on the front page £1289 (excluding vat of course!!!). I have a decent P4 3.2 lappie so wouldn't want to spend this sort of dosh. It's just a hot bu**er when on ones lap.

The great thing about this paper invention thingy is that it only uses power when the page is changed, as said its meant to be paper thin so how it connects to PC or holds battery.

Oh well it'll come.
