Hello Fellow Magicians

Postby timk » Sep 14th, '05, 12:45

Well I say fellow magicians, but I am pretty much a complete novice.

As a kid I was always very interested in magic but never so seriously that I would say it was a hobby. Now in my 30s, I lost that interest since childhood due to so many other things and a lack of time to dedicate to it. However, recently I bought myself the "X-Deck" online and the reaction I got from people I showed it has seriously reignited my interest in magic tricks. I just got such a buzz from seeing the look of astonishment on people's faces.

From what I have read, people here don't look very favourably on the gimmicked card decks and I do intend to start learning sleights etc. But it was a great way to get me interested and spur me on.

I have now bought the The Royal Road To Card Magic (or something like that) and intend to spend some time reading it and learning all it has to offer.

Hi Tim and welcome. We are of all standards here, so you will fit in very well, we are just ordinary people with a common interest in performing magic.

Don't worry in the least about using gimmicked decks, just use what you are comfortable with, as the hobby takes hold and you progress you will I am sure, be more inclined to seek out "purer" methods, but there is nothing wrong with gimmicks. Everything has it's place.

Just remember it's all about the presentation so much more than anythng else...

Welcome to TM! =o)

I'm a fan of using whatever method to get the desired effect. Yeah, there's people here who don't like gimicks. As long as the spec doesn't know, what's the difference? =oP

Welcome! Nowt wrong with gaffed decks, you can get some great results with them! But stick with RRTCM, and lots of practice etc, and you open up a whole new world! Hope you enjoy it here! :D

As far as gaffs & gimmicks go...........whatever floats your boat! Many of us have preferences, but few (if any) would ridicule the use of gaffs & gimmicks. When used approptiately they can be useful!

Welcome!!!!!!
