Daryls ambitous gimmick

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

I still think it's an unecessary gimmick to use. However, I do concede to the statement that Daryl has got far more experience than any of us, where the ambitious card is concerned.

When I first watched his Ambitious Card Routine, I thought it was fantastic ending. However, when he detailed the workings of the gimmick I decided that it was not for me. I think at the time, that was because I wasn't really that good (no change there then!) and wasn't comfortable switching the gimmick in and out. Now that I have a bit more experience I'm still not convinced its necessary, but to be fair I haven't watched the video for a while, so I may watch it again and rethink a few things.

As for why I don't think it's necessary, I think it's the purist in me trying to get out. I've never really liked deck switches, even though many of the most convincing are relatively simple. Also, having an entire deck gimmicked in the way that Daryl's is, really puts me off.

When you use this Rune, please please let us know how it goes because I'm really intrigued about this particular gimmick now :) .

All the best,

That's the one.

But, haha:

The extremely difficult-to-make-yourself gimmick that makes it possible

Yeah right..... but again, the price is not that bad, so for those of you who don't care about creating your own gimmicks, buy it :) I will consider buying one myself, on my next PM order.

Anyway, I will let you all know when I have experienced the trick with this ultimate ending.

Nathan, that has to be one of the poorest excuses for a sentance I have ever seen in my life.

As for a clip of Daryl performing The Ultimate Ambition, I think the only recorded performance is on his video.

Hmmm sounds very intriguing indeed! May consider purchasing it when i have learnt almost every effect that i could ever want to put into an ACR but just need that extra little something! Looking forward to hearing how you get along with creation Rune!

Rune, Correct me if I'm mistaken but haven't you stated that you do not like gimmicks? I think this was in reference to NFW. If so then what has changed your mind?

True !
I do not like gimmicks, but that doesn't mean that I never use it. But, if I can accomplish something, without the gimmick, I would never use the gimmick. In this case, what Daryl accomplishes, would be rather impossible without the gimmick. Gimmicks can be devided into 2 categories:

1: To ease a trick (like the NFW)
2: To do something that would be impossible without the gimmick

Daryl's gimmick falls into the second category, and since I love the AC routine as a whole, adding an ending with his gimmick makes total sense for me. I would "never" use a gimmick only to "ease a trick", to make it easier for me, or to avoid sleight of hands. That's what I ment.

Nathan, please do and try and elaborate. I'm quite intrigued. There is only one gimmicked part of Daryl's Routine and I'd be really interested to see where you think it is.

Having said that, I've just spent 2 hours building this darn fiddly gimmick. After watching the video again I realised that Rune is absolutely right; in this case the gimmick is more than justified. Now I'm really looking forward to using it, to see what sort of reactions it gets. If my home made gimmick get's good reactions I think I'll spend another hour or so constructing a new gimmick, now that I know where I went wrong the first time. I may even consider buying it.

Rune, I presume you're building the gimmick from Daryl's explaination on his tape? Have you bothered putting the two extra "flap" cards on? I'm just intrigued because I personally don't see the need.

Cheers for putting me back onto this, I think it's going to be alot of fun :D
