The thread in the spider pen is not very strong, in fact magicians have been known to switch it with stronger stuff- to lift heavier objects.
My spider-pen thread has snapped so many times it has driven me insane, I no longer use the pen at all.

im sure theres a kevlar based thread for sale on John kennedys website.. its called "kevlex" if i remember and theres a demo vid of it lifting 4 half dollars if i rememeber correctly
