"For-candles" for Ronnie...

Postby Tom Lauten » Oct 4th, '05, 09:53

Sad day folks...a true British institution and world class TALENT with a capital "T" has left us.

Shed a tear for the late, great Ronnie Barker.

R.I.P. Ronnie...long live Fletcher!

A sad day indeed. I'm sure there's many of us on here who grew up on a steady diet of The Two Ronnies, Open All Hours and Porridge.

For those young whippersnappers who don't get Tom's reference in the title, you can read the full script to one of their most famous sketches here:

A huge talent who will be hugely missed.

I second that.

Fletcher - One of the greatest comic performances. Period.

Fletcher was for me his pinnacle. The character he made (and was) showed it's Navy Lark roots and it's Barker styled logic and humour.

True indeed, a sad day!

How good to find somebody else who remembers Able Seaman Barker from the Navy Lark

Comedians today are in the main simply not funny. Bad language and abuse is not funny on its own.

A sad loss.

Ronnie barker is my mum's friends uncle. My mum often met him.
He will be missed.

Truely a name to go down in the history books... an inovative and unique star.

Today the comments above are even more valid as I read that Gerald Wiley, the author of many of the best scripts that the Two Ronnies did (and many others elsewhere) was in fact Ronnie Barker.

What a talent in delivery, construction and authoring we have lost.

What a marvellous man indeed!

A great shame losing him. He was a very talented writer and performer, but we'll always have his shows.
