Witty title, yes.

I'm looking to get an appearing cane. I know of the Fantasio ones and of the more expensive ones which are supposedly faster and more professional. What's the noise like on the Fantasio ones compared to the more expensive ones? Any advice?

I have the plastic Fantasio appearing and disappearing and they all make a certain amount of noise but you can probably cover that with suitable background music/patter/shouts of 'Eh up sunbeam' or whatever you feel like at the time. Not really a serious problem in practice .

Thanks for the info Mandrake. I'll probably be getting the Fantasio versions. I've also heard that you've got to be careful with the metal ones as they can cut your hands, and I'd rather cut my teeth on the Fantasio canes than my hands on the metal ones . I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the metal versions, though, and I'm sure that they're great when used properly, but I think the Fantasio ones'll suit me better.

I'm sure there's an old thread on TM where we went into some more detail about using the canes so a Search under Canes or Fantasio might refer you to it. The appearing version needs a certain amount of upswing of the hand at the right moment otherwise the darned thing flies out of the hand most unprofessionally!
