Card Clip

Postby The Last Deck on the Left » Sep 25th, '05, 15:18

Hi guys,

I'm considering buying a Joe Porper Card clip (already been reviewed on this site).

Do many of you use them? (Card clips in general I mean - not just that brand).

Are they worth buying or is this just another bout of CUPS?

I figured that this can't be CUPS as it will save me money in the long run - prolonging the life of my decks ! :D

Cheers!

Last Deck - please bear in mind with your poll that there a lot of non-performers on this site, and I would hazard a guess that it would be those that perform professionally that are more likely to own a clip or two (or three).

I don't own one, but I don't do card magic professionally to paying customers. I think I would only ever buy one to preserve items such as the ID etc - those decks that are slightly more pricey.

Good Point.

Hi Zack,

Good point. I guess that I already knew the answer to the poll - majority would say no! I just wondered if they really did prolong the life of your cards as much as the sellers claim they do!

Hi, I dont use a Joe Porper clip, but I do own several card guards. I have never spent much on them, but they have prolonged the life of a deck. I always have a deck on me, and putting them in a guard means I can throw them in a pocket/bag with no second thoughts.

If you do a lot of routines that demand a deck in excellent condition (eg routines using perfect faros) then a Porper clip is invaluable.

If the condition of the deck is immaterial then a clip is not necessary (although the Porpers look great....).

I'm not sure if they really do prolong the life of the cards. I always use Tally-Hos, and they seem to last longer that bikes anyway.

I have a card guard and a Porper card clip. The clip holds the cards, very tights, so sometimes the cards need a good spring to loosen them up first, and the card guard always needs some elastic bands around the deck to keep the box in place.

They are good for just throwing in a bag or, i think i heard them once advertised as "prevents bending and warping in tight pockets" - so they protect the cards to some extent. They are great if anyone tries to give you a dead leg (maybe you should carry one in your breast pocket aswell, in case you get shot!!) - personally i use one, becasue it always demands a bit of intrigue, and attention, and it makes you look flashy and professional (that's the CUPS bit right?)

Never had a problem with Card Guards needing rubber bands around them, mine seem to be quite tight on the cards. Although I cannot fit my new ghost deck in them, they must be thicker cards I guess. I think they do make you look quite professional though. Although people wonder why I take such good care of my cards. (Are they "Special" cards etc.)

No. Since i tend to tear up cards, or have them marked, there is little point in keeping the deck in a guard.
If i did, i would never take the deck out of a guard in front of an audience, because that to me screams ........................" special cards!!! ".

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

I have to say I love card clips. Okay maybe not 'love' - but like.

A while back I decided to do what seemed like a major investement and buy a stack of Porpers. I also got some of them professionally trimmed down to perfectly hold bridge size decks.

Cards and card clips are like people and homes. They belong together.

So my vote has to be a big yes.

I just started using card guards and I can say that they are extremely useful! I can easily just put them into my pockets and the cards won't get crushed or sweat won't ruin the cards etc.
