Anything new on the pick-pocketing front?

Postby HanMan » Oct 10th, '05, 23:00

Hi all.

My primary weapon of choice is a good old deck of Bikes, being a mere humble 'impromptu' amateur. As somebody who just carries a deck and shies away from gimmicks (purely on the convenience front - if I did stuff on a grander scale than mates in the pub or people at work then I'd seriously consider carrying other stuff!), I was hoping to branch out into other things that I can perform in my low-key dwellings without the need for props etc and pick-pocketing seems to fit into this category. Its something I've bee interested in for some time but never got round to trying my hand at.
I've searched on previous threads and got a few good steers, but can anybody recomend a seriously good DVD on this subject for a complete beginner in this area?

Any recomendations much appreciated.

Cheers all.

A friend of mine has "Stealing the Show" by James Freedman. It's pretty good and tells you everything you need to know really. It is pricy though (my friend got it cheap in a deal).

He teaches it fairly clearly, and even if you don't think it's for you, James is still very entertaining. I haven't personally practiced or tried any of the techniques, so I can't say how easy/hard it is but I will say that James looks very tallented in the field indeed, i.e. it doesn't look easy! Pick pocketing is something you have to practice loads at, it's not just a 'magic' technique that you can start at straight away.

I personally am staying away from pick pocketing as I'm too chicken to try it

Hi Mahoney, and cheers for the info. I've heard of Freeman's stuff before, and seen the DVD on various internet shop sites. Never seen any footage though so I was keen to get other people's opinions.
I've never looked into this area before, and as you say it'll take lots of practise (which is surely pretty difficult in itself - wrapped up towels, taliors dummy's?!) but I'm really wanting to give it a go. Might check out Freeman's DVD then. Thanks for that mate!
