I was fortunate enough to speak to Derren at a convention and I was intrigued about how he could stick a persons hand to the table and after releasing it make them forget their names. He'd recentley done this to a radio presenter (radio1). I asked him straight out how it was done.
He looked at me and answered my question in just four words.
I just told them.
I went away a little dissapointed but curious.
A few months later I started reading books on Hypnosis and stuff and found sections on Waking Suggestion.

He was right of course. He just told them.

If you want to know How the thing with the boxers is done then find a good hypnosis book and read the section on waking suggestion.

I'd be pretty grateful if you'd share the names of some of your hypnosis books... Waking suggestion is something that sounds right up my street.

I find myself veering towards mentalism/hypnotism after about 10 years doing sleights and card tricks. It feels like a natural progression, and it seems like I'm following Derren's path...

Hi seige
Try "Proffessional Stage Hypnotism" by Ormand Gill
Don't be put off by the title if Stage Hypnosis is not your think. It's not mine but I did enjoy the chapter Experiments in Waking Suggestion.
I went to see Derren Brown at the weekend and he used it to fix a womans feet to the stage amoungst other things. I think the key is confidence and belief.
Try it.
Oh I got my copy from Amazon.

the trick with the boxer & woman was quite good it was something to do with his use of the word wait (which sounds like weight) he kept saying it several times then when the boxer tried to pick her up he couldn't

do you get my explanation ok or does it sound nonsense I'm useless at describing things at the best of times

Ah yes was this Easbourne? I saw him there too - he nicked my mobile phone! But also checked out my tricks and said they were good - very flattering! :D

I've met derren on a few occasions (ten in total I think - lol he knows my name now! ) - even in a kids book that is being published I wrote some math magic for it and the magician who uses it has an anagram of derrens name as his name :D
He is a great guy and inspired me to get into magic when I was 13 - almost three years ago now.

I remember when I first met him I told him about how I got expelled from boarding school for my magic. His response: They kicked you out of boarding for magic?....Good for you!

Great guy :D

It is also possible to do the boxer trick without any suggestion whatsoever.
It just requires a little placement of the girl. Its got to do with how the body applies force to lift objects.

One of those force redirection tricks like that of the lulu hurst (aka georgia wonder)

If you know enough about leverage then the answer is not that difficult :D
