Card College or Royal Road?

Postby Ollivanders_382 » Oct 11th, '05, 19:31

Just curious what everyone’s take is on these books compared to each other. I have Royal Road, and while I appreciate the fact that it is quite well written and held in high regard I do find it a bit lacking in some respects. Would volume 1 of Card College be a better place to start? Thanks in advance for your opinions!

I'm also not sure if I'm comparing apples and oranges here so if I am feel free to set me straight.

There are dozens of previous posts (and heated disagreements!) on this so try a Search above and see what the words Royal Road or even RRTCM bring up.

Yep - this one has been around the houses many times.

My opinion is that whilst RRTCM is a 'classic' text which anyone interested in cards should own Card College is a superior in terms of clarity, readability, scope and basically more up to date thinking on cards.

As you say you can't really compare the two - it's one book written many years ago against a series of books written recently.

RRTCM is a classic book on magic - but that's not to say we don't evolve and update our thinking - which Card College does.

Given the choice - start with Card College Volume 1 - you wont regret it!
