I can't recommend the benefits of joining a magic club highly enough :!:

I've been attending the Wessex Magical Associaiton for five months now and have met some great people, I've learnt some new skills and have even taught a few

Generally, you need to have attended for six months as an associate member before you take your audition for full membership. I've been told that my audition is in early December at the Xmas party and I'm already looking forward to this and am planning my routine carefully.

There's a great video and book library where members can borrow from for a small donation to club funds.

I've also been to two lectures so far, the first lecture by Marc Paul was superb and I found out that he's a Bournemouth lad and started learning magic locally before moving to London.

I really wished that I had joined years ago!

Magic Clubs are fantastic things. I have been going to mine current one for about a year. I cannot recommend joining one enough.

We have a theme for each meeting, but even if you dont practice that theme yourself, eg. last night was cups and balls, I find it a great way to meet like minded people. We also dont spend the whole evening on just the one thing. After the 1st half of the meeting we generally have an informal workshop, where people kinda show and tell new stuff they are working on. But be warned, performing to a group of fellow magicians is the toughest and most critical audience you can get! Get an effect past them, and you know you are on to a winner! :D

Cardicians amongst the group, of which I am one, also have a constant battle for the ultimate card effect. Our meetings are every 2 weeks, so you always have a reason to put in some serious practice!

on a similar vein to this i performed the Larry Jennings version of Oil and Water that i posted in the video section at the club last night and it went down a storm. The guy i asked to help me is a pro and is a bit of a "cardie" himself and the look on his face was priceless at the end of each phase (there were a few mutterings along the lines of "F%"k me.. i never saw a thing" which gave me a slight ego boost..hehe ) so to cut a long story short try and get hold of Larry Jennings "thoughts on cards" Dvd and give it a go

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..

Last night was my first visit to an evening at the Zodiac Magical Society (anyone else on here a member) and it was very enjoyable.

I was welcomed by everyone I met, and the club president even announced me at her introduction speech at the start of the evening.

It was a lecture last night, by a guy called Mike Decker, the World Champion balloon modeller. He's also a member of the ZMS. He was very entertaining. I thought I'd seen most things made from balloons, but he made some fantastic models, including a 5-balloon motorbike, a 5-balloon Donald Duck with moving eyeballs, plus more.

Great night had by all, and I look forward to going back for more.

Good to hear you had an enjoyable first meeting Mark. I still have a week and a half to wait for mine. I will keep you posted.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it my friend.

How's the EC coming along, by the way?

Interesting. I started out with the version in the book Cuts, Counts etc. This is a fingertip version and I am getting on OK with it, getting quite quick now. What I do find is that the cards get a bit slippy after I have practised 3 or 4 times and I have to pull out another four otherwise the second move reveals all.

Anyway, then I looked at your tutorial and I see that you are using the in hand method and I am definitely struggling with that. However, I will persevere. I have a version I can just about use and I will crack the full hand version.

Thanks for the help
