Hello out there.

Stumbled upon this site yesterday, and thought I should say hello.

I've been an enthusiastic amateur since I was about 10. I've gone through stages of being into gimmicks, kids magic, 'tricks' and 'routines'. Now I like to work on mainly 'straight' slieghts (with the odd gimmick thrown in).

Actually, I hadn't done anything 'new' for about 10 years, but I was recently made redundant, and have an new and interested audience in the shape of a 6 year old nephew giving me the time and inclination to get me back into the swing of things.

I live in the Blue Mountains, Australia (which, at times, is not unlike the Yorkshire Moors, which I have vistited many a time, as my wife hails from that part of the world) - about two hours inland (and up) from Sydney.

I'm was, until recently, the technical director of animated films (the company of which just closed down after 15 years), soon to be back to full time high school teaching, and have always been a semi-professional musician (about three shows a month for the last 10 years). My recent revived infatuation with magic is also making me consider other options....it would be nice to get some advice.

Anyway, that's my life in a nutshell - great change is in the wind!

Well, change is always fun - sounds like you're about to have some real excitement and this place will certainly add to it. Be interesting to see what you do, I changed careers at 35 and again at 50 and it's been the bestest things what I ever did!

Exciting....well, the kind of school I'm being posted to may require me to take my 'flaming book' for protection. But yes, I'm looking forward to it. I mean, let's face it, it is a captive audience....

The classroom is a great practice enviornment......I also teach classes, and spend some time Friday (to reward a good week) demonstrating new material!

Hey look at all these teachers who do magic. I also made that change after redundancy in mid 30s. Good career choice and good for classroom magic practice! Is there a Teachers Magic Circle I wonder ?
