Good Card Tricks

Postby Kemo » Oct 13th, '05, 23:59

Hey

I was wondering if anyone could suggest some good card tricks I should get/learn. I already know how to do "The Biddle Trick", "The Daley Show", "Two Card Monte" as well as "Revolver" plus a host of other not so great tricks. So any card tricks you can suggest will be much appreciated. I would pefer to learn "impromptu" card tricks but "stacked" decked tricks are good two. Thank you very much for your help.

Nemesis and Emerge Trimuphant are probably the greastest card magic tricks on penguin, however assuming that your a beginner, I recamend smaller tricks such as a triumph. I'm sure if you search the web you'll find plenty of free simple tricks.

I'd agree that they are both good but will also recommend 'Out of this World'.

what is the difference between Emerge Trimuphant and triumph. Plus I already do do out of this world. I'm wokring on the jazz aces trick but I'm have problems perfecting the EC mainly because i can't perfect the block push off part. Also the video i have of the jazz aces trick is corrupt or scracht or somthing so i have no idea how it finnishes. I know what to do till the last ace. I understand that its against policies to tell a explain a card trick, but if some one could just tell me from the point that you flip over the third ace on that would be awesome. If not I'll just try to make it up on my own. And Blade why did you just assume i was beginner? Also thank you all very much for your suggestion.

Triumph is a basic effect using where the deck is shuffled face-up into face down. Emerge Triumphant is an effect made by Oz Pearlman which is based around the same idea as Triumph (deck unshuffles itself) but with an added kicker and some performance tips and so on. It's also, I think, much harder to perform.

This is, IMHO, the easiest part of the EC so if you PM me and let me know what's going wrong I may be able to offer some advice ;)

Because you said that you only know a few card tricks, because you are looking for new ones to learn, because the card tricks you have listed are relatively basic. Remember, though, there are different levels of "beginner". I wouldn't call you an absolute beginner if you can do Revolver (tricky sleight there) but maybe an "advanced beginner"? :)

Yes, it is. But does that immediately disqualify it from being a good trick? It has so many uses that it's easily justifiable carrying it around.

Hope that helps,

Kati

Hi Kemo - you didn't mention that you had OOTW which in my opinion is an awesome trick if presented correctly.

I have to agree with Kati in that you did give the impression that you were relatively new to cards by the way that you asked your question.

Hey Kemo......

I have been to Ontario numerous times.....nice party of the country!

The ID is a gaffed deck........are you apposed to making a deck swap in your routine? This can create an incredible effect, and leave quite an impression...........a great closer, then put the deck away!

Just a thought!

Ok well sorry that I gave the illusion that I was new to cards. I've been doin them for about for years off and on(more off then on) but in the past well six months I really started trying to learn some card tricks. I'll list of some more trick i either know or am learnig right know to give you a better idea of where I am at.

Known Tricks:
The Hit Man(But I have different/better(?) ending)
The Ambitious Card
Renegade
Do as I do
Two Card Monte
The Daley Show
The Biddle Trick
Revolver
Out of this World

Practising:
Jazz Aces
Deruiluim
Mambo #5
Shotgun Aces
Killer B(just working on the count, well thats really all there is to it)
Transpozition
Nemises

I know I'm working on a lot of tricks at once but thats just how I do it. I get bored if I just keep try the same trick over and over. Also i know more trick then those that are posted it just i don't know their names and most of them are simple self working tricks. So hopfully now you can judge me a bit better. If you still consider me a beginner weather advanced or not please suggest some more advanced card tricks for me to learn.

Thanks
kemo

oh and I am strongly agaisnt any gaff/gimmiked decks only because I feel that they lack any skill(I know thats not true) and a I feel impromtu trick require the most skill so I like to do mainly them but I will do stacked decked trick from time to time(such as out of this world). I also enojy being able to give my card to who ever i show the trick to and let them examine them. I find it builds their belief that it was just magic.

Twisting The Aces......great and really visual. Absolutely no gaffs, and incredibly impromptu!

Card Warp.......easy, but once again a great visual impression. Requires some prep for a small gaff....but once completed, it is all examinable without any sleights, ditches, palms, etc

Asher Twist.......all I can say is STUNNING visual, and pure sleight of hand at its best. This can also worked in to add a flourish to almost any four of a kind effect! Look at leeasher.com to see a vid of it done by the master himself.

Joker's Wilde........excellent, totally impromptu, a good demo vid of it on Penguin!

Would you consider a Stripper Deck? It is great, gives you some versatiliy, slightly gaffed, but very examinable! I would suggest trying it, you might suprise yourself with it!

Thanks for all those suggestions. I watch an effect video of the asher twist. sweet trick I have to get the dvd for that one alone. Plus I have the video for jokers wild but I'm having trouble with the snap change, my fingers just aren't nimble enough for it. But I really want to master it. The other two I wasn't able to find effect videos for, so I don't know if I want to learn them yet. Also I have a stripper deck but I never use it, I just find it annoying. plus it is a bridge sized deck and I only use poker sized decks.

I think that might need editing, mods.

 Then why say it?

Kemo, why not post an introduction in the 'Introduction' forum here at TalkMagic? That way we'll all know a bit more about you and it'll stop any confusion with regards to your skill level, your age, your occupation etc.
