I was discusiing with the some other magicians why we tend to produce something from the elbow.
I could have opened the question up here, and i'd be happy to hear what you think about it, but i'll first explain my reasoning.
We were also discussing things like the Revolution Vanish by Ellusionist. I said that it seems silly as you take the coin from the back of your hand, which is the most un-natural thing to do, as you have to place the coin on the back of your hand before you then take it off again.
However i do not have a problem, with producing a coin from an elbow. I think that when you are taking the coin form the back of the hand, you are surely just setting up the trick - for the audience when you have taken the coin (or not) to them you have still taken the coin, the magic hasn't happened yet. After you've done a coin vanish, the magic has happened, so it seems natural to produce it in a magical way, i.e. unnaturally, from the elbow or so forth.
The same can be seen with the cards from mouth - pretty unnatural but it's ok - becasue this is the magic moment.
Anyway, i hope it makes some sense, but if not, I'm just being magical.
Thanks,
Ed.
